Edgar Berlanga has to make a mandatory pit stop on Saturday before more desired destinations materialize when he faces Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in the last fight of his Matchroom Boxing deal.

After dropping a unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez in September, Edgar Berlanga still enjoyed a victory lap in Puerto Rico and was supposed to headline his own show on the island this month.

After sharing the ring with Canelo Alvarez in a pay-per-view main event, it was a bit surprising to see Edgar Berlanga’s next move.

Berlanga, The Ring’s No. 9 super middleweight, will face Puerto Rico’s Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz in an all-Boricua battle at Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Former IBF super middleweight title holder Caleb Plant wants to catapult his career toward getting another crack at a crown.

William Scull has dared Edgar Berlanga to put something behind his words. The unbeaten IBF super middleweight titlist took exception to Berlanga’s claim that he is “going to f-----g sleep Scull.” The claim was made by the Brooklyn-bred Boricua in a social media post and he now has Scull’s undivided attention.

Diego Pacheco expressed mutual interest in fighting Edgar Berlanga late Saturday night. Brooklyn’s Berlanga wasted no time whatsoever following Pacheco’s victory over Steven Nelson in calling out the undefeated super middleweight contender. Pacheco realizes he more than likely will not get a chance to challenge Canelo Alvarez for his Ring, WBA, WBC and WBO 168-pound championships anytime soon.
