It’s been one helluva ride for Cecilia Braekhus. There’s a reason why she was given the nickname The First Lady. The now-aging vet has been around the game for nearly two decades. She didn’t simply take part in the sport, for the most part, she took over. Now, however, at the “young” age of 43, Braekhus has had enough. No longer is she interested in getting punched in the face for a living. She’s also tired of cutting down in weight.

The Dort Financial Center parking lot in Flint, Michigan was so full that cars were double, and sometimes triple parked behind the television production trucks in the loading dock area of the building. Fans shuffled their way through the icy patches of the lot, and tiptoed through the slush wearing sweaters that said “Team G.W.O.A.T.” or “Claressa Shields: Undisputed.” Though it could have been possible that some of them were Shields’ family members, it’s highly unlikely that all of them were, thought it probably felt to them as though they were.

Claressa Shields continues to collect belts at a record pace. Three more titles were claimed by the ‘GWOAT’ who soundly outpointed Danielle Perkins over ten rounds in their undisputed heavyweight championship. Judges David DeJonge (100-89), Rose Lacend (99-89) and Robin Taylor (97-92) all scored for Shields in Sunday’s DAZN main event from Dort Financial Center in her hometown of Flint, Michigan.

Claressa Shields has reached a precarious position in her decorated career. As she toils in MMA and searches for the perfect dance partner for meaningful matchups in boxing, the belle of the ball could be Alycia Baumgardner.

Claressa Shields is setting her sights on the heavyweight division – for now. After a dominant debut in July where she stopped Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in just two rounds to claim the WBC and WBO titles, the four-division world champion Shields (15-0, 3 KOs) is ready for her next challenge Sunday when she takes on undefeated challenger Danielle Perkins (5-0, 2 KOs).

The feedback Claressa Shields received from fans who’ve seen her biopic has been overwhelmingly positive since it was released in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day.

Before Danielle Perkins was a heavyweight title contender, and even before she was a Division I basketball player, she was a chess enthusiast at her after-school program. It’s a hobby she maintains today, one that at first glance seems more in line with her other profession as the manager of a multi-million-dollar portfolio than it is with being a 6’0”, 190-pound slugger. But it’s a passion that has helped create a framework for how she operates inside the ring, and how she thinks about her boxing pursuit.
