The IBF was set to conduct purse bids on the heavyweight final eliminator between Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez on Tuesday but both sides have been given extra time to seal a deal.
Sanchez doesn't believe his recent form is an indication of who he is as a fighter. In May 2024, Sanchez was bullied and stopped in the seventh round of his clash with Agit Kabayel but has since come back to defeat low-ranking contender Ramon Olivas Echeverria in 2025.
In the immediate aftermath of that win, Sanchez was ordered to take part in an IBF eliminator. However, the likes of Filip Hrgovic, Daniel Dubois, and Efe Ajagba all declined.
The opportunity fell into the lap of Torrez (14-0, 12 KOs), who accepted.
The 2020 Olympic silver medalist would likely be the favorite against Sanchez. He’s coming off arguably the two biggest wins of his career, beating both Guido Vianello and Tomas Salek.
The winner of their supposed matchup would move near the top of the line for a shot at Ring, IBF, WBA, and WBC heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk. The Ring’s No. 1 ranked pound-for-pound fighter is currently negotiating a showdown against former long-reigning titlist, Deontay Wilder.
