Shakan Pitters is still scheduled to fight for the European Light Heavyweight title on Friday, February 7th, but he'll be up against an opponent he hasn't prepared for.

Pitters (19-2, 6 KOs) was originally supposed to face Daniel Blenda Dos Santos (22-1, 10 KOs) for the EBU strap at the Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield, England on a GBM Sports card live on DAZN.

But Dos Santos has had to pull out of the bout with an unspecified medical condition.

“Due to serious medical conditions Daniel Blenda Dos Santos is not authorised to fight until further notice," an EBU statement read.

“For this reason, being us at two days from the execution date, we exceptionally accepted the proposal of the staging promoter – GBM Mr Gostolo – to replace Daniel Blenda Dos Santos with Lee Ingelrest, who is ready and accepted to fight Shakan Pitters for such a vacant title on 7th February next in Sheffield.”

Pitters, a previous British champion at 175 Pounds, is set to compete against replacement opponent Lee Ingelrest (12-0-1, 4 KOs) for the now vacant EBU title instead.

Ingelrest has yet to fight a 12-round contest and has been to the 10th round just once in his 13-fight career.

Pitters first won gold in 2019, beating Dec Spelman to pick up the English Light Heavyweight title, and in 2020 he overcame Chad Sugden to win the British title.

He dropped the Lonsdale belt after losing to Craig Richards by knockout months later and failed in his challenge to win it back from Dan Azeez in 2022.

Pitters' clash with Ingelrest represents his best opportunity to win European honours, so he'll be hoping the late-replacement Belgian doesn't spring any unwanted surprises.
