Holly Holm's return from a 12-year break from boxing was a successful one last Saturday as she scored a shutout unanimous decision win against Yolanda Ochoa.
The fight wasn't a one-off for Holm (34-2-3, 9 KOs), who recently signed with Jake Paul's MVP Promotions.
Holm, 43, is a 2022 International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee who once held boxing titles at 140, 147 and 154 pounds before moving on to a successful MMA career (15-7, 8 KOs) to capture a UFC title.
The next goal for "The Preacher's Daughter" is to win a 135-pound title. That means Holm will be an interested observer July 11 when undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano square off in a trilogy at New York's Madison Square Garden.
"I know that I can still do it," Holm said after the fight. "That's my passion. I'm not going to do it forever, obviously. But I know that I'm still healthy and I am still ready to go.
"I don't want to beat someone at their worst. I want to beat them at their best."
Holm was The Ring's Female Fighter of the Year in 2005 and '06 and last fought in a professional boxing match in May 2013. The Albuquerque, New Mexico, native said she felt at home transitioning from the cage back into the squared circle.
"I've been excited to box," said Holm. "But there are so many nerves going into a fight. That never changes. The day that I don't get nervous is the day I should stop fighting.
"I had fun, but I definitely want more from myself. I had a good time and am ready for another one."
