Raymond Ford is feeling really comfortable at 130 pounds.
As a super featherweight, Ford dominated most of his competition but making those grueling weight cuts took too much out of him. Now, with back-to-back wins under his belt, he’s a whole different fighter.
This past weekend at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Ford issued a one-sided beatdown to Thomas Mattice. At no point did the former 126-pound belt holder break a sweat. After winning practically every second of every round, Ford is now setting his sights on the belt holders at 130 pounds.
The new division he occupies has a terrific set of champions, including O’Shaquie Foster. More than just about anyone, the reigning WBC titlist has remained on Ford’s hit list. And while he’s incredibly talented and proven, Ford doesn’t believe he’d present him with too many problems if they fought.
“I’ll beat the sh*t out of him,” Ford told The Ring. “I’ll beat the sh*t out of him.”
Foster, 31, likely won’t appreciate Ford’s confidence but he may have future plans.
After having his title transiently taken away by Robson Conceicao, Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) grabbed his belt back in the immediate rematch. Since then, talks have emerged that Foster could be defending his title against Stephen Fulton. In addition to that, Foster has been recently pushing for a fight with Shakur Stevenson.
With the possibilities he may have on the table, Ford (17-1-1, 8 KOs) could be left out in the cold. For now, he’ll use whatever little patience he has. Once things open up, he’ll attempt to fight and politick his way into a title shot.
Winning another belt in his second division remains his number one priority but he still wants to get his hands on Foster. When asked to send the WBC titlist a message, Ford kept it short and sweet.
“Come see me.”
