Shakur Stevenson and
Teofimo Lopez appear to be headed to a fight against each other.
The WBC lightweight champion Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) and Ring/WBO junior welterweight champion Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) have been signaling that a matchup should be coming to fruition in the near future.
The development between two of sport's top talents squaring off has got the boxing public excited.
"Madison Square Garden in New York will be neutral grounds for both guys – it's perfect and a crazy East Coast fight,” former two-division champion Zab Judah told MillCity Boxing. "Put them on, pack the house, in the wintertime, minks and Timbos everywhere, you know what I am saying?
"[Stevenson] is going to dismantle him. With the type of style Teo possesses, he's going to break him up. You can't beat what you can't hit. That is impossible, that boy [Shakur] ain't nothing to mess around with, he's sent out of the matrix, pulling away and hitting you.
"I love him, and always spoke highly of him. He's on breakdown, destruction mode. I've been knowing and hearing about him since he was a kid in Newark."
"I think what [Stevenson and
Terence Crawford] are doing, they are creating a superhero machine and showing the world that they do bigger stuff than regular guys do," Judah said. "They're breaking records, astronomical numbers and doing this as a team. It's huge, you better watch them boys over there, they are getting crazy with it."
As for Lopez, he last fought on The Ring card in Times Square, New York and made his fourth WBO title defence with a
similarly impressive points win over Arnold Barboza Jr at the start of May.
