After that May 3 snoozer against now-former IBF titleholder William Scull, Canelo Alvarez hopes to have a more fan-friendly fight this weekend with Terence Crawford, who has vowed he won't run. Four months on, the Cuban remains insistent he did enough ...
William Scull doesn’t care what Pablo Gonzalez, Ron McNair and Danrex Tapdasan had to say. In his opinion, they were all wrong.
The trio scored his May 3 bout in favor of Canelo Alvarez in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, resulting in him losing his IBF super middleweight title. Although several months have gone by, Scull still has sleepless nights. He believes he forced Alvarez to miss while simultaneously making him pay.
“It’s sad, isn’t it?” Scull said on Fight Hub TV. “Losing a fight without taking a hit. He never landed a punch on my face.”
Scull (23-1, 9 KOs) boxed, moved and moved some more. Fans dozed off. Alvarez failed to cut off the ring to force Scull to fight.
According to CompuBox, Scull and Alvarez threw a combined 445 punches. Since those stats have been kept, that was the fewest in a 12-round fight.
Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) is hoping for a more fan-friendly fight this weekend. The 35-year-old undisputed champion will take on Terence Crawford this Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas streamed on Netflix.
Scull, on the other hand, is still on ice. He doesn’t have a fight lined up, but is hoping that will change relatively quickly. When the 33-year-old does return, he’ll put the lessons he learned from that Alvarez bout to good use.
While he’ll look to turn that negative into a positive, he still doesn’t believe he actually lost.
“I felt like I won," Scull said. "I could’ve pushed more in the last two rounds, that’s true, but he never hit me thanks to my footwork. I feel like I was the winner that night."
