The WBC Boxing Grand Prix continues today and we're down to the final 16 fighters.

Fighters at featherweight, junior welterweight, middleweight and heavyweight will be looking to book their spot in the finals, which take place on December 20.

Each fight is six three-minute rounds. Fights cannot end in a draw, and the bouts are scored on a qualitative scoring system if a fight is even at the end.

Tursunov and Lozan started the day with an all-action bout, with Tursunov’s pressure and volume helping him carry the day and become the first fighter to earn a spot in the super lightweight final. Tursunov (9-0, 2 KOs) won, 59-55 twice and 58-56 twice across four of the five judges’ scorecards. The loss was the first for Lozan (15-1, 9 KOs) in his pro career.

Utria continued his dominating run with his most impressive performance yet, as he stopped Nkosi in less than two minutes. Utria (13-0, 11 KOs) hurt Nkosi (10-3, 5 KOs) with a straight right hand followed by a left hook. Nkosi went stumbling into the ropes. And after a flurry of shots from Utria, referee Hector Afu stopped the fight with 1:23 remaining in the opening round.

FINAL: Tursunov vs. Utria

Qamili stamped his place in the final with a first-round stoppage of Yoni Valverde Jr. Around the midway point of the opening round, Qamili (17-0-1, 8 KOs) connected with a huge left hand to the chin of Valverde (16-1, 3 KOs). Valverde rose to his feet on unsteady legs, and a barrage of punches from Qamili forced referee Joel Scobie to call a halt to the fight late in the round. It was Qamili’s first stoppage victory in the Grand Prix.

A pair of left hooks to the liver cemented Mosqueda’s spot in the final. In the last minute of the fifth, Mosqueda (12-0, 10 KOs), sent Maitse (8-2-1, 3 KOs) to the canvas in a heap of pain from a left hook to the liver. Maitse rose to his feet, but when he went to exchange with Mosqueda along the ropes, Mosqueda found the sweet spot again. And this time Maitse didn’t beat the count. The stoppage win was Mosqueda’s second in the Grand Prix.

FINAL: Mosqueda vs. Qamili

Pomerleau (15-0, 11 KOs) edged out Sinisterra (13-2, 10 KOs) by a majority decision to be the first middleweight to earn a spot in the final. Three of the five judges scored it 58-56, while one other judge had it 58-57 and another had it a draw at 57-57.

Biggs controlled much of the bout en route to a clear unanimous decision victory over de la Chapelle (17-2-2, 5 KOs). Two judges had it 59-55, while two other judges scored it 58-56 and one had it 60-54 for Biggs (17-1, 9 KOs).

FINAL: Pomerleau vs. Biggs

For the second time in as many fights, Ramirez found himself on the right side of a close decision. This time, it was to earn his spot in the heavyweight final, as he defeated Dante Stone by split decision. One judge had it 58-55, and another scored it 57-56 for Stone. The other three judges had it 57-56, 57-56 and 58-55 for Ramirez (11-0-2, 4 KOs). The loss was the first for Stone (21-2, 13 KOs) since his pro debut.

In the closest fight of the night, Ahmed Krnjic’s persistent pressure and ability to land power shots made him the first heavyweight to earn a spot in the finals with a split decision victory. One judge had it 58-56 for Keaton Gomes, while three of the other four judges had it 58-56, 58-56 and 59-55.
