Unhappy With Initial Victory, Chris Eubank Determined To KO Conor Benn In Rematch
As gratifying as it was in many ways to defeat Conor Benn, Chris Eubank Jr. was far from satisfied with how he won their 12-round middleweight match.

Eubank beat Benn by the same score, 116-112, on all three cards April 26 at a sold-out Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. There was no debate about who won, not even from Benn, but Eubank wanted to silence his rival by knockout.

Going the distance with someone he dislikes so intensely bothered Eubank (35-3, 23 KOs), who is determined to stop Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) in their highly anticipated rematch November 15 at the same venue.

“I’m looking to set the record straight,” Eubank said during the most recent episode of “Inside The Ring,” co-hosted by Max Kellerman and Mike Coppinger. “I won the first fight, but I won it in a fashion which I was proud of, but at the same time there was disappointment in that victory. I wanted to make sure that he didn’t see the 12th round. I wanted to make sure that there was no question who the better fighter was.

“And the fact that, you know, Conor Benn can come out, away from that fight, saying that he hurt me and that, you know, [he] was one shot away from finishing the fight, you know, that’s all lies. But I want it to be conclusive this time around. I wanna get him out of there.”

Eubank has taken a different approach to training camp in hopes that it helps him win their 12-round rematch more impressively. Among other things, the son of one of England’s most esteemed former champions is working with Brian McIntyre, Terence Crawford’s head trainer, to prepare for the main event of The Ring’s “Unfinished Business” show.

“I mean, [McIntyre] wasn’t brought in so that I, you know, could get a knockout,” Eubank said. “I wanted a different camp. You know, I wanted a different set of instructions, a different strategy, a different game plan. You know, I don’t think any top-tier trainer only focuses on, ‘OK, how can we get the knockout for this fight?’

“We’re not training for that. We’re training for a 12-round war, because that’s what could happen. But in my mind, I’m doing everything I can to implement tactics to get him out of there before that 12th round comes. And yes, Bo-Mac and the team will help me to implement that strategy.”

The 5-foot-11 Eubank, 36, will again need to deal with the physical consequences of dropping down to the middleweight limit of 160 pounds and another rehydration limit. Neither he nor Benn, 29, can weigh more than 170 pounds at a second-day weigh-in the morning of their fight.

The ever-confident Eubank nevertheless believes that he’ll definitively finish this portion of his career by battering Benn in their DAZN Pay-Per-View main event (£24.99 in the UK; $59.99 in the United States).

“There was a reason that the fight played out the way it played out in April,” Eubank said. “There’s a reason for that. And it’s up to me now to make sure that I don’t let this guy see the 12th round. I’m not gonna go into why it went 12 rounds. I’m not gonna go into why it was the type of fight that it was. But there’s a chance for the fight to be very different in November.”
