Shakur Stevenson says Terence Crawford Will 'Cook' Canelo Alvarez

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson is surely biased, but he’s picking his career-long confidant and teammate Crawford to crush the Mexican star.

"I think Bud is going to cook Canelo. I think Canelo is a helluva fighter, but Bud has all of the tools to beat him,” Stevenson told reporters. "I think y'all make [the weight difference] something. In certain fights, yes. If this was David Benavidez, that would apply because he's a lot bigger than Bud. But with Canelo, physically he's kind of big, but height-wise he's kind of small.

"I think [the stoppage] is possible. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but I think it's a possibility if Canelo acts out of line not understanding that Bud can crack, too.”

The contest between Alvarez and Crawford is set to take place on Sept. 13 in either Las Vegas, Los Angeles or New York on a still-to-be-determined platform, and five venues overall are in consideration.

What is signed, sealed, and delivered, however, is Stevenson’s title defense against William Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs), which is set to take place on the Ring III card July 12 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.

“This is the biggest moment of my life right now,” said Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs). “I am coming in there to perform at the highest level and show why I am the best fighter in the sport of boxing.

“How I go in there and perform, that's what's going to matter at the end of the day. I am coming on July 12 to put on the best performance of my life. I want to prove to myself and the world who I really am.”
