Sebastian Fundora stands out among junior middleweights as PPV headliner
In a loaded 154-pound division, Sebastian Fundora is looking down. And not just because he's 6-foot-6.

He's in a high place his peers have yet to reach.

Fundora will headline a Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View on Prime card on Oct. 25 when he defends his WBC junior middleweight title against Keith Thurman, a former unified welterweight champion, at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

It'll be Fundora's first PPV as the headliner, and for him it’s proof of where he stands at 154 pounds. Though both undefeated, IBF champion Bakhram Murtazaliev and WBO champion Xander Zayas have yet to headline a PPV show.

“It continues to show me that I’m doing the right thing,” Fundora said at Wednesday's press conference in Los Angeles. “We’ve been working really hard. Now, we’re headlining our first pay-per-view fight as the A-side. It shows me that I’m doing the right things. I’m very happy, I’m very blessed and I’m going to continue to do my job and keep winning.”

Both fighters took to the stage and exuded confidence.

“[He was] one of the pound-for-pound [best fighters] back then, but it’s time for a change in this sport,” Fundora said of Thurman. “I think I can be the face for it, so I’m excited for everything. ... I think I’m the best 154-pounder in the world.”

Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) is coming off the most impressive win of his career, a seventh-round stoppage of Tim Tszyu in their rematch on July 19 at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. He became champion at junior middleweight in March 2024 when he stepped in on 12 days' notice for an injured Thurman to face Tszyu and won the WBC and WBO belts by split decision.

Thurman’s run at welterweight established him as one of the division’s best, notching wins over Robert Guerrero, Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia. Injuries have caused large stretches of inactivity as he has only fought four times since 2019.

In his last fight, Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) notched a third-round knockout of Brock Jarvis on March 12 in Australia. His only loss was a split decision to International Boxing Hall of Famer Manny Pacquiao in July 2019.

“There are challenges, there are obstacles, I’m about to conquer Mount Everest himself,” Thurman said of the Fundora, who is about eight inches taller than him. “The living, breathing, walking mountain of a man Fundora is. They call him the fire. You can put me in the fire. I’ve been 24-carat gold. ... This is what I live for right here.”

Also on the card is O’Shaquie Foster defending his WBC junior lightweight title against two-division titleholder and reigning WBC featherweight champion Stephen Fulton. Foster and Fulton were originally planned to face off on the undercard of Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr. 2 on Aug. 16 before that fight fell through.

Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) won the title back when he avenged a controversial split-decision defeat to Robson Conceicao with a split-decision victory in their rematch in November 2024.

Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs) added the WBC featherweight title to his resume in his last outing when he won a one-sided unanimous decision in a rematch against Brandon Figueroa on Feb. 1.

Fulton, 31, will be in his first at junior lightweight, while Foster, 31, will be making his first title defense in his second reign as champion at 130.

“I’m coming out there to put on a dominant show,” Foster said. “I know my opponent is going to be ready, but we’re going to be sending him back down.”

Also on the undercard is Jesus Ramos vs. Shane Mosley Jr. for the WBC interim middleweight champion. Ramos (23-1, 19 KOs), 24, has won three straight fights by stoppage since losing a unanimous decision to Erickson Lubin in September 2023.

Mosley (22-4, 12 KOs), 34, who is the son of International Boxing Hall of Famer Shane Mosley Sr., has won five in a row and is coming off a unanimous-decision victory over former middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs in July 2024.

Isaac Lucero (17-0, 13 KOs) will also be on the card. The hard-hitting junior middleweight has won his last six fights inside the distance.
