Undefeated heavyweight prospect
Gurgen Hovhannisyan is set for his first headliner under the Boxlab Promotions banner.
Hovhannisyan (8-0, 7 KOs) will take on Chris Thomas (15-1-2, 10s) in a 10-round main event matchup on July 18 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida on DAZN.
The fight will mark the fourth consecutive showcase at the venue for Hovhannisyan, who is co-promoted by TGB Promotions and Boxlab and affiliated with Premier Boxing Champions.
Hovhannisyan is a 27-year-old Armenian based in Los Angeles, coached by Hall of Fame trainer Joe Goossen. "Big Gug" Hovhannisyan is a slick boxer and power puncher who hovers around 300 pounds and is coming off a dominant fifth-round stoppage against Dajuan Calloway in April.
In the evening's scheduled co-main event, junior featherweight contender
Angel Barrientes (13-1, 8 KOs) takes on Jorge Romero (23-1-1, 14 KOs). The 22-year-old Barrientes is ranked No. 15 by the WBA at 122 pounds and scored a 7th-round stoppage win against Alexander Castellano last time out on March 7 in Toronto, Canada.
"Both Gurgen and Angel are competing against the toughest opponents of their careers," said Boxlab president Amaury Piedra. "Both fighters are poised to step onto the global stage with meaningful, career-defining wins. This night isn't just about wins, it's about making statements and marching up the rankings."
