Training With Canelo Won't Help Jaron Ennis, Says Uisma Lima
Working with Canelo Alvarez can only be a good thing, right?

Apparently, not everyone feels that way.

Earlier this year, Jaron Ennis was brought into Alvarez’s camp to help him prepare for his September 13 showdown against Terence Crawford. Although Alvarez would go on to lose, many believe that the lessons Ennis gained from that experience were invaluable.

This weekend at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs, 1 NC) will use some of the new tricks he learned when he takes on Uisma Lima in his 154-pound debut. While some assume Ennis’ natural talent, combined with ring-time he shared with Alvarez, gives him the edge, Lima (14-1, 10 KOs) finds that laughable.

“My game is not like Canelo,” Lima told Matchroom Boxing. “He will see.”

Making the move to 154 pounds has long been overdue for Ennis. The former Ring, IBF, and WBA welterweight champ had dreams of becoming an undisputed titlist, but after consulting with doctors, he realized that it would be in his best interests to leave the division behind.

Now, he’s hoping to use Lima as a springboard to bigger fights. Ironically enough, the Angolan is also hoping to use Ennis for his own selfish reasons.

When it comes to name recognition, Lima has none of it. But that hasn’t stopped him from going on the road on three consecutive occasions to beat the undefeated hometown favorite.

Ennis, though, is a different animal.

Lima, however, has done his homework. He knows that his main event with Ennis, which is to stream live on DAZN, will be a difficult night at the office. But he doesn't believe he'll be in over his head.

“Now is my time to show everything,” Lima continued. “This fight is coming at the perfect time. I’m almost in my prime.”
