As speculation intensifies surrounding a proposed return in 2026, former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has this week shared an update contradicting previous reports.
Tyson Fury’s back-and-forth ballet surrounding his return to boxing continues to be off balance.
As conversations kick into second gear for a 2026 return, the former heavyweight champion posted a video to set the record straight about his position regarding the pressing topic.
“I can go back to boxing at any given time, but I just don't want to. I’ve got no interest in that,” Fury said on his YouTube channel, FurociTV.
"There's no actual reason for me to go back in the boxing ring. I'm 37 years old, I've been punched for the last 25 years, what do I want to go back to boxing for … It used to be for the money, the titles, but now I've got more money than I can spend, I've got unlimited amounts of belts and titles, and does it make me any happier? No.
"Was the chase better than the victory? Yes. The climb was better than the mountain peak, to be fair. Always the case … You could offer me a billion today, and it wouldn't move the needle, because I've gone past that point of caring about what other people think.”
Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) announced his umpteenth retirement in January after suffering a second consecutive loss to undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk last December. Usyk outpointed Fury more decisively in the sequel by unanimous decision. In their first fight, Fury was dropped and dealt a split decision defeat.
In July, Fury said he would only return for a fight against Usyk. But Usyk appears to have no interest in a trilogy, his team stating earlier this week that the Fury chapter was closed.
Much of the conversation in recent months around Fury’s return has been trying to convince “The Gypsy King” to come out of retirement to finally face Anthony Joshua in an all-British battle between former champions.
"I don't want to tempt fate,” said Fury. “I don't want to keep going back and back to the well because how many times can you keep doing it without getting brain damage or whatever else? Not being able to walk in a straight line, it'd all be pointless then.
"Boxing doesn't take any prisoners; it only takes casualties. So for me to be sitting here, all my faculties in order, won every belt, made loads of money, and not got a scratch on me, I've done really well there.”
