RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Turki Alalshikh put an end to Oscar De La Hoya’s erroneous claim that Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford would take place in the afternoon at Friday’s kickoff news conference.
He said the Sept. 13 Riyadh Season fight for The Ring super middleweight championship would be streamed on Netflix in the evening in prime time. Alalshikh added that De La Hoya “wasted his time” with the claim.
“Of course it is in the peak [time], this is boxing, the No. 1 sport in the world,” Alalshikh told The Ring. “This is Canelo and Crawford.”
The fight features arguably the top two active fighters of this era. The pound-for-pound boxers will clash at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, on Mexican Independence Day Weekend.
“I decided with Dana White to have breakfast at MGM at 10 a.m.,” Alalshikh joked. “Then we will go to the arena to have the fights quick, and after that, we’ll go to dinner at Carbone.
“And in the night, we’ll watch The Conjuring [sequel that hits theaters in September].”
