Trevor McCumby Would Love A Caleb Plant Rematch Down The Road
Trevor McCumby may have walked around with an impressive record but the opponents he faced were relatively unknown.

Still, even with his lack of experience, McCumby (28-1, 21 KOs) swore that he was ready for the super middleweight division’s elite. So, when he was officially given the opportunity to prove his worth against Caleb Plant, he grabbed it with both hands.

This past September, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, he promised to put on a show. Although his doubters had their own thoughts, the 32-year-old was making them eat their words. Ultimately, of course, McCumby was unable to keep things going as Plant eventually found his groove and stopped him in the ninth.

Walking around with his record imperfect isn't what he wanted but the respect he’s gained makes it tolerable. Now, it's all about what’s next. McCumby, seemingly overnight, is a recognizable name. As a result, he can fight practically any of the division’s top names outside of Canelo Alvarez.

McCumby is sitting back and weighing his options but what he truly wants is a rematch with Plant. McCumby doesn’t live in a fantasy world. He knows an immediate sequel isn’t pragmatic but he’s hopeful they can make it happen sometime soon.

“I would like that down the road,” McCumby told Jack Alter. “I think right now it probably doesn’t make sense for him. He’s looking for bigger fights.”

As McCumby alluded to, Plant is looking for the most lucrative and best fights possible. All McCumby can do in the interim is simply go out there and win.

Possible opponents for the fringe contender have been the likes of Edgar Berlanga and even Jaime Munguia if he can find a way to bounce back against Bruno Surace. McCumby promises to play his part though and in doing so, he’ll give the boxing world what they want to see.

“I think the world and a lot of fans would love to see the fight again.”
