Tim Tszyu Confirms Team Shakeup, Vows More Mature Version Awaits As Rebuild Begins
Former WBO junior middleweight champion Tim Tszyu has promised to display a more mature, smarter and patient version of himself as he seeks to rebuild once more after three championship-level defeats over a 15-month timeframe.

The 30-year-old confirmed on social media midweek that he'll be making wholesale changes to his team, which includes parting ways from his uncle/head trainer Igor Goloubev as well as longtime manager Glen Jennings.

It's a decision that has long been the topic of conversation, especially in the wake of his bloodied 12-round first battle with Sebastian Fundora on short-notice in March 2024.

He was originally slated to face former unified welterweight beltholder Keith Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) that night, though a serious biceps injury saw the American replaced on 12 days' notice with a completely different style opponent to gameplan for.

Thurman, who now faces Fundora on October 25 for the WBC title, told The Ring earlier this month of his opinion that Tszyu's violent loss to unbeaten IBF champion Bakhram Murtazaliev contributed to his diminished display during a Fundora rematch.

Tszyu didn't answer the bell for the eighth round of their title fight July 19, leading many to believe the nine-year pro is now a shell of his former self after a string of damaging defeats against elite competition in quick succession.

As reported by Fox Sports Australia, the Sydneysider is headed for the United States next month and will spent at least six weeks stateside after telling promoters No Limit he wants a December return to finish a forgettable year strong.

Having ventured to North America for training camps previously, Tszyu will likely test the waters with some familiar faces and explore other gyms to get a feel for who he'd be most comfortable cornering him next time around.

On Instagram, he wrote: "Since my last fight, I've had time to reflect and can feel that fire still burning inside me.

"I believe this next part of my journey will be my best yet. A more mature, smarter and patient version of Tim Tszyu.

To reach the next level, I've decided to restructure my team and bring in some new faces to support me on this next chapter. I'll share more details soon but wanted my supporters to hear it from me first. The best is yet to come."

George Rose, his promoter, told BoxingScene it'd be wise not to rush Tszyu into a decision about his future or plan a hasty comeback given all he's experienced since early 2024.

"I won't push him to get back in. I want him to recover from what he's been through over the last 18 months, he's had a hell of a rollercoaster. When he's ready - probably more mental than physical - mentally, when he's ready to lock into a camp and get the journey started again, open the book on the next chapter, that's when I'm ready for him to go."

That article was published exactly a month ago, where Tim was training for a Sydney marathon at the end of August. Since then, he's enjoyed a lengthy getaway to Japan with wife Alexandra and is now back training again.
