Thurman Makes it Clear That Tszyu Needs a Win Before a Fight Can Be Discussed
At the age of 36, Keith Thurman is tired of his own disappearing acts.

For years now, the former unified welterweight champ has broken too many promises to his fans. Although he assured them on countless occasions that he would remain active, injuries forced him to renege on his word. With that said, he believes things are different now.

Last week, Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) ended a three-year layoff by brutally stopping Brock Jarvis. At no point did the Florida native look rusty. Instead, he looked as sharp and deadly as ever. With Jarvis’ unconscious body shoved out of the way, Thurman is looking for bigger fish to fry.

Tim Tszyu, a former title holder at 154 pounds, fits that mold. The two were originally supposed to meet up in early 2024 but injuries, once again, sidelined him. Now that he’s healthy, rumors of him facing Tszyu have been prevalent. But while he understands, he wants those rumor mills to slow down a bit.

Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs) isn’t in a good place right now. Once it was revealed that Thurman was physically unable to compete against him, Sebastian Fundora not only stepped in but he also took advantage of his opportunity, handing Tszyu his first career defeat. A few months later, a second defeat came knocking at his door, this time against Bakhram Murtazaliev.

Naturally, the Tszyu fight has lost a ton of its star power but that hasn’t stopped some observers from hyping it up. Thurman isn’t mad at it but before Tszyu or anyone else can continue those discussions, the former 154-pound belt holder needs to do himself a favor and take care of business against Joseph Spencer on April 6th.

“He’s coming off two losses,” said Thurman to a group of reporters. “He needs to get a w. At the end of the day, that's important.”
