Teofimo Lopez: We Have a Three-Fight Deal That Has Yet To Be Disclosed
Teofimo Lopez Jr. is not mincing any words when describing the current state surrounding his fractured relationship with his career-long promoter.

“They’re trying to f--- my life up. Literally, my career,” Lopez told a group of reporters.

The Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) has been beefing with Top Rank in recent weeks regarding his forthcoming ring return, which centered around negotiations for a fight against former division titleholder Subriel Matias. This development has since fallen through the wayside.

“They offered Matias $850,000,” Lopez explained. “That's a lot of money for a guy who just lost [to Liam Paro in June] and doesn't have anything. But it's to make me look bad ... They wanted to do the fight at the T-Mobile Arena [in Las Vegas]. That's not going to sell on the West Coast against a Puerto Rican on a sh!t card. Top Rank doesn't have the right stars. I'm sorry, but I don't have good stablemates at Top Rank right now. So what am I doing? If it was in New York, and it was on PPV, then the fight would have been done.

“I’m not fine with PPV if it’s not with the right dance partner. Listen, if Matías was really worthy of that type of competition then Matchroom, Eddie Hearn would’ve still kept him.”

Lopez previously shared that he turned down a $2.8 million offer from Top Rank to fight Matias. Meanwhile, Top Rank boss Bob Arum has wondered, "what won’t he turn down? Where is his head at?"

"I asked for $3.5 million guaranteed as an insurance policy because it would have lowered my PPV stock,” Lopez said. “They didn’t even believe it would pass that 100,000 [PPV buy] threshold. So, why are we doing it on PPV? That’s from Bob Arum himself, the chairman. He said it’s not PPV-worthy. So, why are we still making the fight on PPV?”

Recently, Lopez linked up with new coach Eddy Reynoso, added Keith Connolly and Mike Borao as his managers, and is also one of the sport's many stars looking to strike a deal with Turki Alalshikh, owner of The Ring and head of Riyadh Season,

“I look forward to a very productive year,” said Lopez, adding that he won’t be fighting until “summertime.”

“We have a three-fight deal that has yet to be disclosed. We're looking forward to great things soon. The whole goal is to get everything done and finalized. My team is doing a great job.”

As for his future with Top Rank? That remains to be seen.

“It's to be disclosed,” said Lopez. “We still have things to work on, for sure. We'll make things work the best way we know how to. From there, we just execute and take over. This is a great year for me. I feel rejuvenated and fired up. I can't wait for these exciting fights we'll be making.”
