Sultan Zaurbek will head home for his biggest test to date.
The Ring has confirmed that the unbeaten junior lightweight is set to face former title challenger Azinga Fuzile. Their scheduled ten-round bout will serve as the co-feature to the Janibek Alimkhanuly-Anauel Ngamissengue IBF/WBO middleweight title fight on April 5 at Barys Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Another confirmed bout for the show will pit Batyr Jukembayev (23-1, 17 KOs)—a Kazakh junior welterweight based in Montreal—and England’s Kane Gardner (17-4, 7 KOs) in a scheduled ten-round contest.
Zaurbek (19-0, 13 KOs) has not fought at home since Dec. 2021. His next six bouts after that night took place in England, while his most recent outing came in a ten-round, unanimous decision win over Damian Wrzesinski last Dec. 7 in Waterford, Ireland.
The 28-year-old southpaw was a natural selection for Nomad Promotions’ big offering at home. Zaurbek joins Alimkhanuly (16-0, 11 KOs), The Ring’s No. 1 middleweight whose lone pro appearances in Kazakhstan came in his first two bouts.
Fuzile (18-2, 12 KOs)—also a 28-year-old southpaw—carries a three-fight win streak since his lone career title bid.
The eleven-year pro from East London, South Africa came up short in a Nov. 2021 unanimous decision defeat to Kenichi Ogawa for the vacant IBF 130-pound title. He earned the opportunity after a seventh-round knockout of Martin Ward, 20 months after his controversial eighth-round stoppage to then-unbeaten Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in their Sept. 2019 title eliminator.
All three wins among Fuzile’s current streak have taken place on home soil and ended well inside the distance. His most recent victory was a sixth-round stoppage of Namibia’s Sebastianus Natanael last Aug. 25 in East London.
Headlining the show, Alimkhanuly will bring his unified reign home for the nation’s first ever major title fight in modern boxing history. The 31-year-old southpaw will attempt his fifth overall defense of the WBO belt and second as a two-belt titlist.
