Still No Contractual Resolution To Whittaker-Cameron 'Roundgate' Saga
As fight week for the much anticipated rematch between Ben Whittaker and Liam Cameron kicked off, there was still no contractual resolution to the ‘Roundgate’ saga that emerged late last month.

The light heavyweights are scheduled to meet on Easter Sunday at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham in a rerun of their controversial clash in Riyadh on October 12, which ended in a technical draw after both men fell out of the ring.

Boxxer, Whittaker’s promoter, acted fast to arrange an immediate rematch and the pair have now completed exhaustive training camps which have left them both in incredible shape.

However, there is still a major problem looming over the fight.

As Cameron revealed, he has signed a contract for a 12-round fight but Whittaker is understood to have signed a deal for a 10-rounder. Boxxer boss Ben Shalom put this down to a clerical error and described it as an extremely expensive one because Cameron will be financially compensated for the mix-up.

But The Ring understands, as of Monday, there was still no contract signed by Cameron confirming the switch from 12 to 10 rounds.

Both sides are said to be working on the situation tirelessly but one source said: “Roundgate is still in full swing. We need a resolution soon.”

Liam posted on his Instagram stories after this went to publication, confirming the same. At 1:30pm BST time, the 34-year-old wrote:

"BOXXER have my terms to accept to change the fight to 10 rounds but are refusing to send me a contract to vary the deal and are trying to suggest they can change the rounds without a contract. Going into fight week not knowing how many rounds I'm fighting is a joke for me and my opponent, as I post this, it's still a 12-round fight."

But in contrast to Cameron’s claim, Shalom insisted everything has been sorted - and that even the British Boxing Board of Control have rubber-stamped a 10-round fight.

He told The Ring: “Boxxer accepted the terms put forward by Liam Cameron’s promoter, Queensberry, in writing two weeks ago. As the promoter of the Resurgence event on April 20, we have confirmed with the Board that the main event will be 10 rounds. This has been communicated to both teams.”

Elsewhere on the show in Birmingham, heavyweight Frazer Clarke returns to action against Ebenezer Tetteh while Lee Cutler and Sam Eggington meet in a guaranteed super-welterweight tear-up.
