Stephen Fulton is feeling deflated following
his defeat to
O’Shaquie Foster on December 6 in San Antonio.
The 31-year-old from Philadelphia was scheduled to challenge for Foster's WBC 130-pound title but came in two pounds overweight and ended up fighting for the sanctioning body's interim 135-pound title.
And instead of becoming his city's first three-division champion, he capped a disastrous few days by losing a lopsided decision.
Fulton (23-2, 8 KOs) is putting the blame on himself.
“I have to get back focused,” he wrote on his X account. "That's my fault."
Fulton remains the WBC 126-pound beltholder but his future seems uncertain. One option: Bruce Carrington holds the WBC interim featherweight title and has called out Fulton on numerous occasions.
In the meantime, Fulton, who was also beaten by Naoya Inoue in 2023, wants to tinker with the training regimen that led to his loss to Foster (24-3, 12 KOs).
He gave Foster credit for his victory but said he wasn't the best version of himself.
“Nowhere near the best of me, not one bit,” Fulton wrote. “Sorry for my performance to my fans and supporters. I'll be back and better.”
