When
Caleb Plant was at his lowest, Stephen 'Breadman' Edwards helped him get back on track.
But despite Edwards pushing the right buttons in Plant's two stoppage wins against Anthony Dirrell and Trevor McCumby, their partnership has officially come to an end.
As for the exact reasoning behind their split, Edwards remained mum on those specifics.
"I don't wanna give out any details," Edwards told
The Ring. "But Caleb and I are no longer working together."
Just a few months ago, Plant (23-3, 14 KOs) was expected to use the aforementioned momentum gained in 2024, pushing him to new heights in 2025. Yet, what was supposed to be an impressive but straightforward assignment against
Jose Armando Resendiz on May 31 at Las Vegas' Michelob Ultra Arena proved one of his most difficult nights instead.
Although a win would have set up a super middleweight matchup with
Jermall Charlo, tentatively scheduled for the winter months, Plant was forced to accept a split decision upset defeat.
Talk of an immediate rematch surfaced while Plant pondered his options and critics questioned whether he's simply on the decline after looking unspectacular in their Prime Video headliner.
Nonetheless,
as reported by The Ring's Mike Coppinger, a Plant-Charlo matchup is in the offing for sometime in early 2026 - potentially alongside
Resendiz-Edgar Berlanga. If that comes to fruition, the former IBF beltholder will have a new voice leading his corner.
As for some level of animosity, there isn't any from Edwards. In the past, the longtime trainer has always considered Plant a terrific fighter and while their relationship will have changed, his thoughts have not.
"I have nothing but love and respect for Caleb," Edwards continued. "He's a tremendous fighter and great person overall. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Caleb and wish him nothing but the best."
