Skye Nicolson: Ellie Scotney Would Be A Big London Fight, The Call Out Was A Compliment
She's already done it once, so it's fair to say Skye Nicolson is under no illusions about having to dish out friendly fire.

The WBC featherweight champion and The Ring's No. 1 126-pound fighter has ousted every opponent that's been put in her way so far, including Raven Chapman (9-1, 2 KOs) in her last bout on the Artur-Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol undercard.

Nicolson (12-0, 1 KO), a skilful southpaw who had around 150 fights as an amateur, sparred Chapman on numerous occasions and was on friendly terms with the 31-year-old before they were pitted against each other.

For one week only, the pair traded a handful of verbal barbs to sell the fight, but in the end, Nicolson came out on top, winning a wide unanimous decision. And now the pair are back sparring again as they prepare for their upcoming fights.

Another fighter Nicolson has sparred with, and who she has routinely championed on commentary and social media, is Ellie Scotney (10-0).

Scotney, the IBF, WBO and Ring champion at 122 pounds, a weight below Nicolson, has been one of the brightest sparks in British boxing over the past couple of years.

After her recent defence against Mea Motu (20-1, 8 KOs) at the end of January in Nottingham, she hinted at her plans to move up in weight by calling out Nicolson, who welcomed the shoutout.

Nicolson told The Ring: "I wasn't watching at the time but lots of people started sending me links and clips, I was out for dinner with the Ibox team for Eddie Lam's birthday.

"I wasn't surprised [Ellie called me out], I love that fight. I think it could be a really big London fight, I've lived here for three years and haven't actually boxed in London, so that could be the one.

"With Ellie it's a great clash of styles, she's a great come-forward fighter, I'm a counter-boxer. We've sparred and they've been really good spars, I wasn't surprised at all, I know she struggles with the weight at super-bantamweight so the natural progression for her would be featherweight and I'm the name in that division."

Nicolson clearly has no issues with Scotney's efforts at angling for what would be a big, intriguing women's fight in the UK.

But the Queensland-born champ wants Scotney to first prove herself more than capable of competing in a division where Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) also holds three belts, including The Ring title.

She added: "It's a compliment for me that people are calling me out now, I much prefer being called out than having to chase anyone anyway. I know I'm the name that people need to fight so get noticed and recognised so I take it as a compliment and that's a fight that will entertain.

"I'd like to see her box a top-10 featherweight first, just to show she's up there and means business, and then we can get it on.

"Women's boxing is such a small community as it is, [fighting people you're friendly with] is bound to happen. It was the same with Raven. And doing punditry, you have to give your predictions on fights and your friends with both of them, it happens all the time.

"But you have to separate the relationship or friendship, there's always going to be that respect there. I'd rather give that opportunity to someone when they're polite and respectful than when they're not. So for me, it is what it is, it's part of the sport, it's going to happen."

Nicolson is next in action on Marsh 22 in Sydney, Australia on the George Kambosos-Daud Yordan card, which will stream live on DAZN worldwide. The Aussie takes on American Tiara Brown (18-0, 11 KOs).
