McGuigan Laments Glanton's Fight Week Antics, Backs Billam-Smith To 'Piece Him Up'
Chris Billam-Smith's trainer Shane McGuigan is adamant his man will score a conclusive victory over Brandon Glanton on Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The two cruiserweights will clash on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jr vs. Conor Benn, Ring Magazine's first ever boxing event, which will be streamed live on DAZN.

Billam-Smith (20-2, 13 KOs) hasn't fought since his unanimous decision loss to Gilberto Ramirez at the end of 2024, a clash in which he lost his WBO title, while Glanton (20-2, 17 KOs) was last in action in June 2024, beating Aleksei Egorov on points.

The build-up, at least from American Glanton's side, has been spicy.

In an interview with The Ring, he promised maximum violence and at the grand arrivals on Tuesday, he told 'CBS' to his face he would hurt him and knock him out in emphatic fashion.

After the pair finished their open workouts on Wednesday, Billam-Smith waltzed over to the DAZN broadcast team to partake in media duties and he was followed by a boisterous Glanton, who had to be pulled away by security, on his way to the gantry.

McGuigan stood by and watched the melodrama unfold, and he spoke to The Ring immediately after to give his thoughts on Glanton's fight-week approach.

"A typical American selling a fight," McGuigan said. "I think apparently he said that Chris didn't shake his hand in Bournemouth [in 2023] or some s--t like that.

"I don't even know if Chris knew who he was, you know, [Glanton] had just come off a loss against David Light and [Billam-Smith] was focusing on Lawrence Okolie boxing him that week, so he came over as a member of Lawrence Okolie's team, he was a bag carrier. He's going to have a full one on Saturday night.

"I want to say my piece, because, you know, I want to tell him he's gonna get scraped off the canvas. He's focussing on Chris and Chris is just ignoring him.

"Sometimes it annoys me because there's better ways of doing it. This fight sells itself.

"You don't need to go and shout from the rooftop. But that's maybe what he feels he has to do to try and get an edge, but Chris is a seasoned pro, he's never going to get an edge on him."

On the fight itself, McGuigan expects an entertaining one, but ultimately, he believes Glanton is going to get seriously hurt, particularly at mid-range.

"The guy comes to win. He's a heavy-handed guy, he's quite consistent throughout the rounds," he added.

"I think Chris' speed, his combinations, his ability, that guy's never fought a guy that's able to fight in mid-range like Chris, so where he normally gets a success, I think he's going to get pieced up.

"Maybe a stoppage, maybe points, but I think he'll take a sizeable beating, that's for sure."
