Shalom: Chris Eubank Jr. is On Top of The World!
After spending two precautionary nights under observation following his gruelling unanimous decision victory over Conor Benn, Chris Eubank Jr was discharged from hospital on Monday morning and, according to his promoter, Ben Shalom, the magnitude of what he achieved on Saturday night has only just started to sink in.

“He's absolutely on top of the world. It's taken a couple of days to almost come down from an unbelievable experience of what it was for all of his team, but particularly him,” Shalom said on Sky Sports News.

“It's been a hard, hard camp but to be in a sort of legacy-defining fight like that is everything that he's ever dreamt of.

“I'm really proud of him. Everyone connected with Chris right now is emotional. It was a very emotional night and it was a great night, and he performed extremely well.

“So, yeah, he's doing very, very well.”

35 year-old Eubank Jr, 35-3 (23 KOs), will undoubtedly be feeling a mixture of pride and relief at beating Benn and upholding the family name despite a well documented - and costly - battle with the scales but he will also be experiencing the unfamiliar feeling of public support and respect.

Eubank Jr has always polarised opinion amongst boxing fans but has gradually won them over during the three years his saga with Benn has been rumbling on for.

The fight also brought about a reconciliation with his father, former two-weight world champion, Chris Snr, and the reception the pair received when they emerged into the cauldron of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium clearly meant something to him.

In a social media post on Monday morning, Eubank Jr spoke for the first time since the fight and thanked the public, stating that, “without the fans none of this is possible, thank you.”

Shalom understands just how far the fight crossed over into he mainstream and believes Eubank Jr deserves the acclaim he is receiving.

“I've never seen a fight encapsulate the public the way it has. It's everywhere,” he said.

“It's all over social media. It's the different generations, the younger generations. I've got my girlfriend, my mum, my cousins, everyone that's never even watched boxing before is talking about this fight.

“It was everything and to be there on the night, to witness it, to have Senior turn up as well, it was emotional, but all I can say is we're extremely proud of Chris Eubank Jr. It was his show on Saturday night. It was his moment. It was his story. He sold the whole fight from start to finish.

“Senior turning up was just magical and the family has been through a hell of a lot and it was nothing less than he deserves and they deserve.”
