Shakur Stevenson: “That Was Boots At His Best”
There aren’t many elite-level fighters who are willing to jump in there with Jaron Ennis. But, this past Saturday night, one of the welterweight division’s top dogs decided to find out what he was all about.

Eimantas Stanionis isn’t a pushover but apparently, he’s also no match for Ennis. During their 147-pound unification, Shakur Stevenson was glued to his ringside seat. With each passing round, his eyes widened.

The former Olympic silver medallist was confident in Ennis winning but he did believe that things would be competitive. Looking back, he tries to pinpoint why he was completely off in his prediction. Out of nowhere, a bell goes off and a light switch is hit.

From Stevenson’s point of view, it isn’t that Stanionis is a bad fighter but more so that Ennis, more than ever before, was clicking on all cylinders.

“I thought that was Boots at his best,” said Stevenson to YSM Sports Media. “He was having fun, he was sharp. It was a great performance.”

Offensively, Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) was incredible. The angles, the speed, the power, it was all dished out at an elite level. Also, on the defensive side of things, he was nearly untouchable.

Once it was clear that they were simply out of their element, Team Stanionis saw no point in continuing to send their man out there. So, at the end of round six, Stanionis remained seated, giving Ennis the corner stoppage victory.

The 27-year-old and his team will now celebrate their win but not for too long. Becoming an undisputed champion at 147 pounds is salient but so is challenging himself against the best of the best.

No matter what Ennis ultimately decides to do, Stevenson will continue to support from a distance. But, in terms of who will give him a run for his money, Stevenson doesn’t believe a single welterweight soul can do that.

“He’s the truth, he’s the truth.”
