Shakur Stevenson Not Worried About Persistent Hand Issues: 'Nobody Can Beat Me Regardless'
If there’s one thing that could ultimately derail Shakur Stevenson’s career, it’s hand issues.

The Ring’s No. 4 ranked lightweight and current WBC champ makes it look incredibly easy when he’s in between those ropes. Just a few weeks ago, it was another sweat-free night.

In Saudi Arabia, the 27-year-old issued a one-sided beating to late replacement opponent, Josh Padley. In the midst of dominating his man, however, Stevenson hurt both of his hands. Although it made things a bit more complicated, he still managed to score a ninth-round stoppage.

Immediately following the win, Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) addressed his ailing hands, even going as far as to say that he needed help “saving” his career. Nevertheless, Stevenson is backtracking. Well, at least to a certain extent. While he would like to be pain-free, he’s been around the game long enough to know how to work around it.

“That shit don’t worry me,” said Stevenson during an interview with Cigar Talk. “I been boxing since I was 5 years old. The only thing that really concerns me is when it comes to getting stoppages, knocking guys out.”

Turning off someone’s lights has never been Stevenson’s specialty, winning rounds, however, is something else entirely.

The lightweight division is about as bloodthirsty as it gets in the sport of boxing. Gervonta Davis, Vasiliy Lomachenko, William Zepeda, and a long list of others are fighters Stevenson will, in all likelihood, step into the ring with.

That said, when he’s eventually asked to step up to the plate and fight the elite’s of his division, whether he’s hurt or not, Stevenson expects the results to be the same.

“When it comes down to winning a fight and scoring, there ain’t nobody that can beat me regardless,” continued Stevenson. “Whether I got one hand, both of my hands hurt. I’m better than these guys. I’m the best fighter in the sport of boxing. I understand hit and don't get hit. I understand everything about the sport of boxing. These guys can’t beat me so I’m not worried.”
