Brandon Adams wins grueling rematch with Serhii Bohachuk by lopsided margin
LAS VEGAS —
that the outcome of their first fight wasn’t a fluke.

Adams consistently landed the more damaging shots during a 10-round middleweight fight that was contested almost entirely on the inside at Allegiant Stadium. Adams, 36, an underdog despite that he knocked out Bohachuk in their first fight 4½ years ago, continuously caught him with left hooks to the body and overhand rights to his head on his way to winning a unanimous decision on the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford undercard.

Judges Eric Cheek (99-91), Glenn Feldman (98-92) and Patricia Morse-Jarman (98-92) scored it for Adams.

Most sportsbooks listed Ukraine’s Bohachuk (26-3, 24 KOs) as at least a 4-1 favorite, largely because he went 8-1 after Adams stopped him in their first fight in March 2021. His only loss during that stretch was a majority-decision defeat to WBC interim 154-pound champ Vergil Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs) in August 2024 in Las Vegas.

The comparatively inactive Adams (26-4, 16 KOs), of Whittier, California, lost his last bout before their rematch to Greek prospect Andreas Katzourakis (16-0, 11 KOs). Adams was much more effective Saturday night than when he lost a 10-round split decision to Katzourakis on November 22 in Atlanta.

Beating Bohachuk again rejuvenated his career and knocked him out of position to land either a rematch with Ortiz or a shot at the winner of an October 25 bout between WBC super welterweight champ Sebastian Fundora and Keith Thurman.

Once they reached the 10th round Saturday night, Bohachuk clearly needed the type of knockout Adams produced in the eighth round of their first fight. He wasn’t unable to hurt Adams in those final three minutes, though, and realized he hadn’t done nearly enough to win.

Bohachuk backed up Adams more in the ninth round that he previously had done. He landed a couple of right uppercuts but nothing appeared too hurt.

A left hook by Adams knocked an exposed Bohachuk off balance just before the bell sounded to end the eighth. By then, Adams appeared to be in complete control.

Adams finished the seventh by connecting with a right to Bohachuk’s head and a left to his body.

A right to the head and a left to the body by Adams knocked Bohachuk backward with about 1:15 on the clock in the sixth round. Adams landed several right hands earlier in that round to maintain control.

A right by Adams knocked Bohachuk off balance with just over a minute remaining in the fifth.

The fourth mirrored the first three rounds in that Adams and Bohachuk stood their ground and unloaded power punches for most of those three minutes.

Neither Adams nor Bohachuk took control during a third in which each fighter stood his ground and threw short shots high and low.

Bohachuk’s right uppercut split the guard and got his attention during an action-packed second round. Like the first, they exchanged punches.

They traded hard head and body shots from close distances throughout the first. Adams’ thudding left to the body seemed like the most impactful punch of the opening three minutes.

The ensuing rounds unfolded in much different fashion than their first fight.

Bohachuk comfortably led Adams on all three scorecards — 69-63, 68-64 and 68-64 — when a left hook dropped him late in the eighth round of that junior middleweight match in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

Adams’ damaging punch snapped back Bohachuk’s head and sent him to the canvas with 26 seconds on the clock. Bohachuk beat referee Ramon Pena’s count, but the bout was stopped because he couldn’t stand up straight.

Bohachuk’s team attempted to make an immediate rematch, but he and Adams went in different directions until this fight was put together over the summer.
