Serhii Bohachuk had it all figured out.
The 30-year-old Ukrainian desperately wanted a title shot, but to get there he needed a victory over
Brandon Adams on the
Terence Crawford-Canelo Alvarez card Saturday in Las Vegas — preferably a violent one.
Once he took care of business, that would represent his third straight victory. From there, everything would fall into place.
Seems easy, but Adams didn’t follow the script.
The fringe contender, who stopped Bohachuk in the eighth round in 2021, got it done again,
winning a fairly wide decision this time.
With his plans up in flames, Bohachuk (26-3, 24 KOs) took the time to give thanks to some of the more important people in his life despite the defeat.
“Thank you to my team, family, and every single one of you who believe in me and stand by my side,” Bohachuk wrote on his Instagram account.
Fighting up close and personal is something Bohachuk normally enjoys, but Adams (26-4, 16 KOs) was physically stronger, more ruthless and refused to lose.
In the end, Adams' tenacity and willingness to bite down paid off. Now, he’ll sit back and wait for the phone to ring, something that will undoubtedly happen.
As for Bohachuk, he isn’t sure what his next move will be. His title dreams are hanging on by a thread, and he knows he’ll have to put in a bit more work before it becomes realistic.
Getting down on himself, however, isn’t something he intends to do. He isn’t quite sure what went wrong, but he plans to work harder than ever so he won’t be on the losing end of another decision.
“We’ll learn and come back stronger than ever,” Bohachuk said. “I’ll be back.”
