Undefeated junior middleweight contender Xander Zayas (21-0, 13 KOs) will officially get his crack at a world title, as the World Boxing Organization named him as the mandatory challenger to WBO, WBC world champion Sebastian Fundora. (22-1-1, 14 KOs).
Fundora retained his titles on Saturday night in Las Vegas, when he battered and stopped Chordale Booker (23-2, 11 KOs) in four rounds.
Zayas was sitting ringside for Fundora's most recent win, and in the aftermath he entered the ring to speak face to face with his future opponent.
The teams behind Fundora and Zayas have twenty days to reach an agreement or a purse bid will be ordered by the sanctioning organization.
The minimum bid on the fight is $200,000.
Terence Crawford was the WBO's interim-champion at the weight, but he notified the sanctioning body that he intends to move up by two divisions, to super middleweight, to challenge unified world champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in September.
