World-rated cruiserweight
Ryan Rozicki had been on course to face
Badou Jack for the WBC cruiserweight title in early May.
However, those plans were derailed when the Canadian puncher tore his bicep in sparring and
was forced to pull out.
Rozicki, rated at No. 5 by
The Ring at cruiserweight, has undergone surgery and is already plotting his next move.
"I've already started by rehabilitation and the doctors are saying I will be ready to return before the end of the summer," Rozicki (20-1-1, 19 knockouts) told The Ring.
Rozicki, who has been dealing with a myriad of legal issues but is unable to talk about those proceedings at this point,
wasn't overly impressed by Badou Jack and his replacement Noel Mikaelyan.
"I didn't even get through the full fight," he admitted. "It wasn't the style of fight that I was interested in watching. Congrats to Jack on the win."
Meanwhile, the cruiserweight division looks like seeing some action this month.
He'll be an interested bystander when
The Ring and IBF champion Jai Opetaia puts his titles on the line against decided outsider Claudio Squeo on Sunday.
"I've never watched Claudio before but, this is boxing, and anything can happen," he said before casting his attention to a potential shootout with the talented Australian.
"Jai is a great fighter and our styles would make for a great fight. I would love to fight him; it would be an absolute war."
"That's a good fight," he said. "Dorticos will always have a puncher's chance, and he has been in there with some good opponents. I would love to fight either guy after their bout."
While Rozicki remains loyal to his desired path to the WBC title, he may have to stay busy when he returns while Jack and Mikaelyan meet in a rematch that was
ordered this week by the WBC.
"My target is anyone who has that belt," he said. "I want to fight for that [WBC] belt right away, but we will wait and see how it plays out."
