Luke McCormack def. Ramiro Garcia Lopez PTS 6
Luke McCormack (3-0, 2 KOs) made it three wins from three as a professional as he beat seasoned journeyman Ramiro Garcia Lopez (8-21, 7 KOs) tonight at the BIC.
McCormack was hoping to get a third stoppage but the task was always going to be a tough one with Lopez having never been stopped in his 20 defeats previously. Nevertheless, McCormack put in a dominant display and landed piercing right hands throughout.
In the fifth round, McCormack landed his biggest shots of the fight but Lopez wouldn't yield and in the final round did enough to see the final bell, despite a knockdown in the final 20 seconds of the fight.
Karol Itauma def. Michal Ludwiczak TKO3
With new trainer Shane McGuigan in tow, Karol Itauma (13-1, 8 KOs) made his comeback to the sport in style by stopping Michal Ludwiczak (18-15-2, 10 KOs) in the third round.
The first two rounds, perhaps used to shake off the ring rust, Itauma looked a little ponderous as he trudged forward in search of some big shots. But in the third round Itauma landed an uppercut to the body which took the wind out of his opponent. Referee Lee Every stopped the contest after Ludwiczak turned to his corner with his gum shield handing out following the count.
Charles Frankham def. Jahfieus Faure PTS 6
Charles Frankham (8-0, 3 KOs) handily beat Jahfieus Faure (3-22-2) in his comeback fight, having been out of the ring since January 2023. Frankham launched a blistering attack on his journeyman opponent in the first round and nearly ended things with a massive right hand on the bell.
Though the 25-year-old was unable to stop his opponent, he dominated the rest of the six-round contest and dusted off the cobwebs in convincing style.
Liam Dillon def. Mace Ruegg SD10 (12-1)
Liam Dillon (15-2-1, 3 KOs) beat Mace Ruegg (12-1) via split decision in a tight 10-round contest in the first fight of the televised portion of tonight's card in Bournemouth.
Dillon kept coming forward from the opening bell but Ruegg displayed his back-foot boxing brilliantly in the first three rounds. Power shots became more prominent for Dillon in the middle rounds as Ruegg's feet slowed.
Rounds six and seven were again even, and very much became about what you like as a judge - front-foot pressure or counter-punching. As the latter rounds came, the pace became slower, something which suited Ruegg down to the ground, but Dillon was still able to land clean.
The 10th round saw the best of the action as both men stood their ground and traded big shots in an effort to sway the judges, who eventually went the way of Dillon with scores of 98-92 to Ruegg and 96-94 twice for Dillon.
John Isaacs def. Ezequiel Gregores PTS 4
First bit of drama tonight as prospect John Isaacs (2-0) labours to a four-round points win against journeyman Ezequiel Gregores (3-20). The judge scored the contest 39-37 to Isaacs, who was dropped by a left hook in the third round.
Isaacs got off the deck but was shaken for the rest of the round and it looked like the final two rounds would be hard work for the youngster. But after steadyng himself, Isaacs boxed to orders to nab the final two stanzas and make it two wins from two in the paid ranks.
Joseph Butler def. Alexander Morales PTS 6
Joseph Butler (6-0, 0 KOs) overcame Mexican Alexander Morales (6-9-5, 2 KOs) in a stylish but reserved performance which the referee scored 60-54. Butler worked at splitting his opponent's guard with five and six-shot flurries throughout.
Though the Mexican never touched the canvas and showed himself to be a tough opponent, Butler dominated the contest to make it six wins from six as a professional, landing clean and staying defensively responsible throughout.
Henry Turner def. Miguel Cesario Antin TKO1
Henry Turner (14-1, 6 KOs) bounced back from defeat to Jack Rafferty with an easy first-round stoppage win in his first fight at Welterweight against Miguel Cesario Antin (20-20-1, 8 KOs). Turner boxed nicely for the first two minutes of the round before landing a left hand which stunned and dropped his under-matched opponent.
Once Antin rose to his feet, Turner poured on another attack, forcing the referee to jump in and end the bout.
