Ryan Garcia’s best win in the ring is one that doesn’t count.
Back in April of 2024, Garcia, who was viewed as a loose cannon, was a sizable underdog against Devin Haney. Luckily for him, oddsmakers don’t fight for you.
Garcia brutalized Haney, leading to a majority decision. Ultimately though, Garcia’s was short-lived. The presence of ostarine was found in Garcia’s system, leading to his win being overturned to a no-contest.
Still, he’ll get a chance to prove that PEDs weren’t the biggest reason why he won. The two are scheduled to get it on later this year if they get past their preliminary bouts. Haney has a date lined up with Jose Ramirez while Garcia will look to take out Rolando “Rolly” Romero.
Getting past Romero would be a nice feeling but shutting up Team Haney would feel like vindication. However, while he’s looking forward to it, he would like to eventually fight a certain someone who will also be on the card.
“I want Teo (Teofimo Lopez) because I haven’t fought Teo,” said Garcia to a group of reporters.
In the opening bout of the May event, Teofimo Lopez will put his Ring and WBO lightweight titles on the line against Arnold Barboza.
For Garcia, it’s never been about winning a world title so to speak. Of course, it would be nice to do so but there are other things more important.
Boxing is a sport that’s shaped by the sort of fighters you get in there with. So far, Garcia has gotten a chance to see what it’s like to swap fists with Gervonta Davis and Haney. Currently, his hit list is a long one. So while he does want to put his rivalry with Haney behind him by beating him officially in the ring, there are more fighters Garcia wants to get his hands on before it’s all said and done.
“For me, I want to fight everybody,” continued Garcia. “That’s what I always wanted to do. I handled Haney, regardless.”
