Robert Garcia: Bam Rodriguez On His Way To Being Best Fighter I've Ever Trained

Ahead of his three-belt world title unification with WBA beltholder Fernando Martinez this weekend, Bam Rodriguez's ever-growing achievements mean he's two years from being the best fighter Robert Garcia has ever trained, the longtime coach told The Ring.
Robert Garcia is one of the sport’s most renowned and respected coaches.
The Ring's 2024 Trainer of the Year has been a mainstay in the corner throughout the years for the likes of his brother, Mikey Garcia, as well as Nonito Donaire, Anthony Joshua, Marcos Maidana, Kelly Pavlik, Abner Mares, Fernando Varga, Brandon Rios, and, currently, Vergil Ortiz Jr., Raymond Muratalla, and Jesse Rodriguez, among others.
Garcia says “Bam” Rodriguez – The Ring’s No. 6-ranked pound-for-pound fighter and Ring, WBC, and WBO junior bantamweight champion – can quickly emerge as the cream of the crop.
Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KOs) will get another chance to move up Garcia’s personal power rankings Saturday when he takes on WBA titleholder Fernando Martinez (18-0, 9 KOs) on “The Ring IV: Night of the Champions” card in Saudi Arabia.
“He could be the best fighter I've ever trained,” Garcia told The Ring. “Look at what he's already accomplished at 25. He's been a champion for three years already, and still has a lot left in his career. He wants all of the challenges that are out there. He wants only the best, and no easy fights. He's on the way to being the best fighter I have ever trained. I can probably say in two more years, that he is."
The slick southpaw and power-punching Rodriguez is a former unified champion at 112 pounds and is coming off a stoppage win – four in a row – against Phumelela Cafu in July.
Rodriguez battered and blasted Cafu to snatch his WBO crown inside 10 rounds, and later admitted it was the toughest test of his career.
Rodriguez also has wins against Juan Francisco Estrada, Sunny Edwards, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, and Carlos Cuadras ever since bursting onto the scene in 2022.
The Ring IV: Night of the Champions takes place on Saturday, November 22 and will stream live on DAZN PPV from 3 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. GMT (UK: £24.99; US: $59.99).
