Richardson Hitchins and George Kambosos are simply crossing their t’s and dotting their i’s.
A showdown between them is widely expected to be announced in either the coming weeks or days. In all likelihood, their matchup will take place in Hitchins' backyard in New York City.
At least on paper, the loquacious Aussie would be the most accomplished fighter he’s taken on yet. But don’t tell Hitchins that he’ll have a real fight on his hands. Any mention of Kambosos being even remotely competitive with him vexes the current IBF 140-pound champ. The 31-year-old might be obtrusive over social media but in the ring? Hitchins expects it to be a cakewalk.
“I’m a f--- George Kambosos up,” said Hitchins to Boxing Social during a one-on-one interview. “He’s a C-class, D-class fighter. I’m an A+++ fighter. I’m a f--- George Kambosos up.”
Hitchins' (19-0, 7 KOs) words are unproven conjecture but it’s been a little while since Kambosos grabbed a top-level win. He did make his name and fame off his victory over Teofimo Lopez back in 2021. But since then, he’s been dominated by the cream of the crop. Those losses to Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko aside, he recently grabbed a pick-me-up sort of win against Jake Wyllie on March 22nd.
Hitchins, for what it’s worth, isn’t the type to run anybody over with a barrage of punches. And he certainly hasn’t displayed any one-punch knockout power. Still, that hasn’t stopped him from issuing threat after threat in Kambosos’ direction.
By the time it’s all said and done, the 27-year-old newly crowned champion is 100% sure that Kambosos (22-3, 10 KOs) won’t be able to do a single thing to mitigate the beating that’s coming his way.
“This fight is gonna be bad,” continued a smiling Hitchins. “I’m telling you. This is gonna be bad.”
