Richardson Hitchins: I Will Beat Teofimo Lopez, I'm Better Than Everyone at 140
Richardson Hitchins has always talked a big game but now he has a belt to back it up at the bargaining table, all while trying to snatch another.

The newly minted IBF junior welterweight crownholder and The Ring’s No. 4 ranked fighter has big plans for 2025, including headlining a homecoming event in Brooklyn, New York and unifying a title in the division.

“I've proved myself as a legitimate contender,” Hitchins told The Ring. “Now I’m ready to prove myself as a legitimate champion. I will go down as one of the best fighters in the sport of boxing. I don't believe none of these guys are on my level. Now is my time to prove it.”

Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) is coming off a convincing boxing masterclass and unanimous decision win against Liam Paro in December to win the belt he now carries.

During his post-fight interview, and in the weeks since, Hitchins has pleaded for a fight against The Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion, Teofimo Lopez Jr.

“Teofimo is definitely a guy that is willing to step up to the plate and take the offer,” said Hitchins. “He said he wants to be undisputed at 140. I'm the guy running my mouth and calling him out. Why not? We're both from New York and it will be a fun fight. I will beat Teofimo. I am better than him. I'm not ducking or dodging anyone. I am better than everyone at 140 pounds.”

Hitchins getting a fight against Lopez got a bit more feasible last week when Lopez signed a managerial deal with Keith Connolly, one of the sport’s top advisors and also the manager of Hitchins.

“Right now there are different guys, but we have to keep busy,” said Hitchins. “If we can't get George Kambosos, we'll get another guy. I would love to get another belt. I'm ready to prepare to defend the throne. That's what it's all about. I would love to fight no later than May. I've been calling these guys out way before I was a world champion.

“My goals for 2025 is to make the biggest and most lucrative fights happen, defend my title, and make these millions. And next year, I'll move up to 147 pounds.”
