Richardson Hitchins said on "Inside The Ring" that he's targeting the winner of Devin Haney vs. Brian Norman, which takes place on "The Ring IV: Night of the Champions" on Nov. 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Richardson Hitchins is proud to be a world champion.
In the summer, he defended his IBF title in style against George Kambosos Jr., but now he's wanting to mix it up with the rest of the 140-pound titlists. Making a move seven pounds north to welterweight, however, is something that's also on his mind.
The fight would have to make sense, though. Hitchins wants world title gold in a second weight class.
“I’m willing to go up to 147, in my first fight, to challenge the winner of Devin Haney vs. Brian Norman for the WBO championship,” Hitchins told Max Kellerman on the latest episode of "Inside The Ring", which airs every Monday at 2pm ET/7pm GMT on DAZN.
Haney (32-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC) will get the first crack at Norman (28-0, 22 KOs) and his WBO welterweight title on November 22 at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, live on DAZN. Hitchins isn't sure who'll come out on top. Instead of breaking it down, he wants to be a fan on the night. But he's targeting the winner.
Hitchins' June win over Kambosos was a dominant one. The New Yorker dropped his man before stopping him in the eighth round.
Becoming a two-division champ is firmly on his mind, but doing so against Norman is poetic to a certain extent.
In the past, Hitchins and Norman have worked together to help one another improve. If the 24-year-old manages to get past the former undisputed lightweight champion, Hitchins is down to rekindle their old sparring wars.
“In a few months, if I’m available and if Brian Norman is available, let’s make the fight happen,” Hitchins continued. “Me and Brian Norman already boxed before in the the gym so we’re familiar with each other. I think it would be good to do it for a world championship.”
