Richardson Hitchins is on cloud nine following a convincing boxing masterclass performance against Liam Paro on December 7 to capture the 140-pound IBF title.
Following the career-best win, the Brooklyn native Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) is already calling for a homecoming fight in New York against the likes of WBO and Ring Magazine champion Teofimo Lopez Jr., WBC champion in recess Devin Haney, and former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr., who was angling for an all-Australian showdown against Paro if he’d beaten Hitchins.
“I think [Lopez] will be one of the biggest fights of the year in 2025, a very lucrative fight, a very big fight,” said Hitchins. “I belong in the ring with only the top level in boxing.
“Whichever one of the champions wants to fight. Haney said if I get a belt, he’ll fight me. So let’s do it. I’m ready for any of the top names. I want the biggest fight in boxing. It’s time to secure my legacy. Secure my family, and make the biggest fights.”
With Lopez and Haney, Hitchins is asking for heavy fire for his title defense. Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing is more inclined to pit Hitchins against Kambosos, especially after signing Kambosos to a co-promotional deal on November 22.
One day after Hitchins beat Paro, Hearn said Kambosos could be the potential opponent for Hitchins’ homecoming.
