Armando Resendiz upset former IBF super middleweight champ Caleb Plant on points in his last fight.
The handlers of Edgar Berlanga and Jose Armando Resendiz are in talks for the super middleweights to fight in the first quarter of 2026, sources told The Ring on Monday.
Berlanga (23-2, 18 KOs) is coming off a fifth-round knockout loss to Hamzah Sheeraz in July. Resendiz (16-2, 11 KOs) scored a major upset split-decision victory over Caleb Plant in May.
Resendiz won the WBA secondary 168-pound title when he defeated Plant.
It would be another chapter in the Puerto Rico-Mexico rivalry with the Brooklyn’s Berlanga representing the island and Resendiz a native of Mexico.
The 28-year-old Berlanga’s other defeat came via decision against Canelo Alvarez in September 2024.
Resendiz, 26, is The Ring’s No. 6 super middleweight. He was stopped by Elijah Garcia in Round 8 of their September 2023 fight. His other loss was an upset decision to Marcos Hernandez in 2021.
