Reece Bellotti and Michael Gomez Jnr will finally meet on February 15th at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena.
The British and Commonwealth super featherweight title fight will take place on the undercard of the WBO super welterweight final eliminator between England’s Jack Catterall, 30-1 (13 KOs), and unbeaten American, Arnold Barboza Jnr, 31-0 (11 KOs).
Last October, Bellotti, 19-5 (4 KOs), travelled north to Manchester to defend his titles against former English champion, Gomez Jnr, 21-1 (6 KOs), on the undercard of the super welterweight fight between Catterall and Regis Prograis.
Gomez Jnr successfully made the 130lb championship weight on the Friday and was in his dressing room on fight night when his team became concerned by their fighter’s condition. Just over an hour before the first bell, they called in a doctor who conducted the relevant tests and immediately diagnosed Gomez Jnr with a kidney infection, ruling him out of the fight.
An understandably furious Bellotti cast doubt on the legitimacy of Gomez’s illness and made it abundantly clear that he felt the Mancunian had ‘swallowed it.’
For a while, there were doubts over whether the fight would be rescheduled but with Catterall now booked to return to the Co-Op Live Arena for his fight with Barboza Jnr and the undercard in need of some local interest, Bellotti and Gomez Jnr have agreed to try again.
It has also been confirmed that light heavyweight hoper, Conner Tudsbury, will make his professional debut on the show. In 2018, the Manchester born 24 year old won bronze medals at both the Youth World and European Championships.
