Gervonta Davis can be a bit unpredictable. One day, he’s ready to fight any and every one, on another, he’s ready to walk away from the game.

Ray Ford has noticed some of the arbitrary behavior of Davis, including his opponent selection.

Ford was left dumbfounded when Davis decided to fight Frank Martin last year. He’s equally surprised that Lamont Roach is his upcoming opponent.

It isn’t the first time that Davis has decided to drag an opponent to his weight class. His pattern, along with the mercurial way that he goes about his business, has convinced Ford that one day, he too will get the opportunity.

“I could be,” said Ford to a group of reporters when asked if he could one day be an opponent for Davis. “You never know what Tank do. Maybe one day I will get the call.”

Ford (16-1-1, 8 KOs) has never fought at 135 pounds but nowadays, he fights a bit closer to the lightweight division.

After losing his 126-pound title to Nick Ball, Ford decided to give his body a reprieve by moving up to the junior lightweight division.

The extra meals Ford enjoyed resulted in more energy and power as he dropped Orlando Gonzalez numerous times before cruising to a unanimous decision win. He isn’t sure when he’ll make his next ring appearance but if Davis tells him to move up an additional weight class, Ford will do it.

Landing a fight with him is more than just a gigantic payday for Ford. Well, of course, he’ll enjoy the extra zeros in his bank account but for the 25-year-old, it’s all about doing well. Ford wouldn’t go as far as to say that he’ll actually win but if you believe he would get bullied and run over, you have another thing coming.

“I would love to fight him. I definitely feel like I can compete with him on any given day.”
