Ford's ring wizardry, paired with his ranking, has cleared the path for him to get a shot at O'Shaquie Foster’s belt relatively soon.
Raymond Ford won’t have to wait much longer for a shot at the green and gold belt.
Since moving up to 130 pounds, Ford (17-1-1, 8 KOs) has been wanting to get his hands on O’Shaquie Foster. He wants his WBC title. Although he has no idea when he’ll get his chance, Mauricio Sulaiman, the organization's president, would love to see it happen.
“Absolutely,” Sulaiman told The Ring when asked if he would be interested in seeing Ford fight for his title. “Raymond Ford is a tremendous fighter. He’s ranked number three in the WBC.”
As long as everything goes according to plan, there’s a good chance that Ford moves even higher.
The 26-year-old is looking forward to the bright lights Saturday night when he takes on Abraham Nova at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on DAZN Pay-Per-View.
Foster, though, is in no-man’s land. He was initially set to defend his title against Stephen Fulton on the undercard of Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach. But with that rematch up in the air, Foster is trying to figure out his next move.
As for Ford, patience is an attribute he has inside the ring, but on the outside it’s wearing thin.
Losing his WBA featherweight title to Nick Ball via split decision in 2024 hurt, but Ford took that defeat on the chin and moved up in weight. Then he started to rebuild.
He looks like brand new. The New Jersey native has gone 20 combined rounds with Orlando Gonzalez and Thomas Mattice and has lost just one round on the judges' scorecards.
That ring wizardry, paired with his ranking, has cleared the path for Ford to get a shot at Foster’s belt relatively soon.
“He’s been consistent and active,” Sulaiman said. “I would love to see him fight for the WBC title.”
