Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington is a lot of things. He’s incredibly skilled, heavy-handed, and prides himself on having a tight defense.
From the outside looking in, those might be the superlatives fans use to describe him. Raymond Ford, however, would use a few other words.
“He’s a b——,” said Ford to The Ring recently. “I think he’s soft.”
At times, fighters merely state that they have an issue with someone and keep it at that. Ford though, doesn’t like covering himself in the shadows. So, not only did he admit that he has a problem with Carrington but he also took the time to explain exactly what his issue is.
“When he get on these interviews, he be trying to be this person that he’s not,” continued Carrington. “I can’t respect that.”
For Ford, what truly got under his skin was Carrington allegedly making mention of his loss to Nick Ball. Ford lost a close split decision at the midway point of 2024.
Although it was his first defeat, the 26-year-old doesn’t mind admitting that he could have done better. However, if you compare his level of competition to Carrington’s, you’ll notice that there’s a huge difference.
“You fought nobody in your career, ever,” continued Ford. “You scared to get hit. I seen him fold in the amateurs time after time after time. He’s not that. People gonna see soon.”
Just last year, the two could’ve squashed whatever beef they had in the ring but Ford now competes one weight class higher. His immediate goal is a simple one, become a two-division champion. But just because he wants more hardware, doesn’t mean he isn’t willing to take a detour to face Carrington.
Don’t expect Ford to work even harder in order to get down in weight. Instead, what Carrington needs to do is hit the weight room and come meet him at 130 pounds.
“Yeah, when he stops trying to be vegan and eat some steak and move up. He damn there dying trying to make 126. It’s time for him to move up too.”
