A day shy of four months after his first outing of 2025, unbeaten teenage lightweight prospect
Curmel Moton returns in another steady step-up, topping the non-televised portion of a Prime Video card headlined by Caleb Plant vs. Jose Armando Resendiz this weekend.
The highly-regarded youngster (7-0, 6 KOs)
scored a third-round knockout win over Frank Zaldivar in their scheduled eight-round contest on the David Benavidez vs. David Morrell undercard February 1 and the Las Vegas resident has another eight-round assignment here.
He'll face another locally-based fighter in Cuba's 28-year-old Renny Viamonte (4-1-1, 2 KOs), a decade older but with just nine more professional rounds' experience.
Viamonte beat then-unbeaten Hebreux Francois on February 22, ending a two-fight winless streak where he lost his perfect record via majority decision to unbeaten hopeful Francisco Rodriguez, before a split draw with Tristan Gallichan the following month last summer.
All three were over six rounds, so this eight-round contest represents a step-up for him too and will be appointment viewing before the televised portion of Saturday's card begins.
Moton, whose proposed November 30 fight with Ecuadorian southpaw Bryan Mercado (11-7-1, 6 KOs) was cancelled
after a seismic 12-pound weight miss, has long been touted for future stardom across multiple weight divisions. The Mayweather Promotions-guided talent began his pro journey at junior lightweight, though has since outgrown the division.
That has led to callouts from a series of names, including fellow rising prospects Abdullah Mason (18-0, 16 KOs) and British junior lightweight Giorgio Visioli (7-0, 6 KOs) after the latter's well-documented trip stateside to spar Moton and others earlier this year.
Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn, Visioli's promoter, said the 22-year-old had "given Moton a good bashing" in sparring two months ago and that naturally, Moton's handlers didn't like it.
Hearn also promotes the Moton's former amateur rival Zaquin Moses (3-0, 2 KOs) and it'll be interesting to see how their trajectories build as a potential pro bout marinates over time.
First things first, Moton must focus on himself, keep winning and doing so in the same highlight reel style that everyone has become accustomed to.
