Following last week’s announcement from HE Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority and owner of Ring Magazine, Brooklyn-born Teofimo Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) and Newark, New Jersey native Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) took the stage at Madison Square Garden to discuss their upcoming January 31 clash at the World’s Most Famous Arena as the former will look to defend his Ring and WBO Junior Welterweight Titles. Brought to fans by Matchroom Boxing, the fight will headline an undercard to be announced at a later date, with the Pay-Per-View broadcasting live, exclusively on DAZN worldwide.
Stevenson, a 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist and WBC Lightweight Champion, seeks to become a titleholder in a fourth different weight class. The Newark, NJ native is currently ranked eighth on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list and is no. one among The Ring’s lightweight contenders vying for a vacant championship. Lopez has held the junior welterweight title since defeating former Undisputed 140-Pound Champion Josh Taylor via points just over two years ago.
