Path Clears For Fabio Wardley To Face Kubrat Pulev In Autumn Clash
LONDON, England — The wheels are back in motion for a clash between undefeated Fabio Wardley and WBA champion Kubrat Pulev after it was confirmed that Jarrell Miller and Michael Hunter have agreed to fight.

As reported by The Ring over the weekend, "Big Baby" Miller and Hunter will headline a Sept. 11 event in Las Vegas as part of the build up for Canelo Alvarez against Terence Crawford which takes place two days later at Allegiant Stadium.

Hunter was slated to fight Pulev for his strap on Aug. 23 after Don King won a purse bid to stage the encounter in May. However, with nothing officially scheduled, the one-time cruiserweight world title challenger has moved on.

And that has opened the door for Pulev to finally face Wardley, who won the WBA’s interim title by a stunning come-from-behind victory over Justis Huni beneath the rain at Ipswich Town's Portman Road on June 7.

Wardley ( 19-0-1, 18 KOs) became a dad for the first time a week after that fight but recently told The Ring that he has turned his attention towards a return later this year.

It is understood he has instructed his team to explore the chances of facing Pulev (32-3, 14 KOs) next.

Undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk, of course, holds the WBA full title but the situation beneath him in their rankings had become increasingly complicated. Now a fight between regular champion Pulev and interim champion Wardley would go a long way to solving those issues.

During an exclusive interview with The Ring, Wardley had said: "I think the WBA said that this has to be cleared up before the end of the year, so whoever has the interim belt has to fight for the regular belt before the end of the year. So if that doesn't happen we have to have a word with the WBA and say, 'Hang on, what are we doing here?'

"I'm not the one holding things up, I've done my job, won by knockout, so how do we get things moving? We are hot on that, we're checking in and making sure things are moving properly. This is just boxing at the top isn't it? It all gets a bit stop-start and stagnant.

"Sometimes you have to wait and hold your position. I'm at the point now where I don't have to fight for the sake of fighting. Right now, my plan is to fight for that regular belt and I'm not looking at other options. It depends on what the WBA say but my argument will be that I've done my job, I'm busy, I'm active and also ready to go now."

Pulev, 44, has yet to box this year. He last fought Dec. 7 against Manuel Charr and won a 12-round unanimous decision in Bulgaria.

Wardley, 30, is preparing to resume full camp ahead of an autumn fight which he now hopes will be against Pulev.

Overnight, King issued a cease-and-desist order to Sela and TKO, insisting he still has a valid contract with Hunter and was not involved in making the Miller-Hunter matchup.

"They continue to disobey the WBA and its clear directive on the Pulev-Hunter championship fight. Hunter is under contract to Don King Productions and he'll be fighting for a world championship," he said, awaiting further details on next steps within the divisional landscape.
