Pat Brown Hyped For U.S. Debut After Easy Start To Pro Career
SHEFFIELD, England — Pat Brown will look to cap a successful first year in the paid ranks when he travels stateside later this month, in preparation for his first 10-round contest against battle-hardened Felix Valera.

It was announced last week the 25-year-old Olympian will feature on Matchroom's Orlando bill on November 1, featuring Jordan Thompson's heavyweight debut and the return of Olympic bronze medallist Omari Jones.

Brown (4-0, 4 KOs) made his frustrations felt after needing two rounds to blast beyond overmatched hopeful Austine Nnamdi on the Lewis Crocker-Paddy Donovan 2 undercard in Belfast last month. He needs more stern opposition to showcase there's more substance than just highlight-reel finishes, justifying why Matchroom are so high on him.

Matchroom CEO Frank Smith echoed Eddie Hearn's excitable sentiments about the cruiserweight.

"Pat's tremendous. Dave Allen spars him and says he wouldn't want to get hit by him in a real fight, he can go all the way but we have to develop him the right way and put him in with the right opponents," he told The Ring.

"It's hard getting guys to face him once you see what he's been doing to people, just sheer brute force. He's also one of those old-school characters with a huge following and fanbase. He sold over 1,200 tickets in Altrincham but once you see those knockouts consecutively as he steps up, he'll set himself up to be in a great position.

"We've got to keep developing and stepping up the pace, that's what this 10-round international title fight is, an exciting one. After that, we'll look to headline him again in the early part of next year."

When those plans were put to Brown, he agreed.

"I can't wait, just two more weeks' hard graft in the gym and I'll be over there ready to go," he said. "I got the call two weeks after Belfast, America wasn't guaranteed and the Birmingham card was an option, but it popped up and I grabbed it without hesitation."

Brown will represent Matchroom's third British-based boxer featuring on US cards this year, after Brighton's junior featherweight prospect Adam Maca made his debut a quick one on the Richardson Hitchins-George Kambosos undercard in June.

Junior lightweight talent Giorgio Visioli (9-0, 6 KOs) pitched an impressive eight-round shutout against James Wilkins on the Jaron Ennis-Uisma Lima undercard at the weekend, with big things similarly expected of the 22-year-old southpaw.

Dominican Republic veteran Valera (24-8, 21 KOs) has boxed a series of notable names at light heavyweight and cruiserweight since being outpointed by then 6-0 prospect Dmitry Bivol in May 2016.

Besides the Ring and unified champion at 175 pounds, 'Mangu' has boxed longtime divisional contenders Sullivan Barrera, Maxim Vlasov, Aleksei Papin and Michal Cieslak. All four are former title challengers and Brown feels he's tailor-made for some rounds.

"I've watched him a bit," he added. "He's experienced and dangerous, powerful but more importantly the man to take me rounds. I need to get them in and he'll do that.

"I'm looking forward to the experience, travelled the world fighting the best as an amateur so am used to it - two big men having it - but there will be a lot more eyes watching me, that's what this is about.

"I can't wait to bring fights and big nights to Manchester, headline shows as I did on my debut with amazing atmospheres? That's what I'm all for."
