Asanau scores career-best win
Former amateur standout Dzmitry Asanau impressively stopped previously unbeaten Laid Douadi in three rounds in a scheduled 10-round lightweight co-featured bout.
From the opening bell, the skillful Asanau (11-0, 5 KOs) presseded Douadi, who was content to box on the backfoot. The 2016 and 2020 Olympian consistently worked to the body, which paid dividends when he dropped Douadi (27-1-1, 3 KOs) late in the second round.
In the third, Asanau clearly felt nothing coming back and lived up to his nickname, "The Wasp," by swarming all over Douadi, not giving him any room to breathe.
Late in the round, Douadi backed away but left himself open to the body, and a well placed left hand snapped him in half and finished him at 3:00
Orobio overwhelms Basurto
Fast-rising 140-pounder Jhon Orobio threatened to blitz Ivan Basurto in the opening round with a pair of knockdowns but ultimately had to settle for a third-round stoppage in a scheduled eight-rounder.
Orobio (15-0, 13 KOs), who is a Ring ambassador, bashed up the game, but overmatched late sub from Mexico, who replaced Xoliani Ndongeni earlier in the week.
Orobio was unable to get rid of Basurto (10-9, 10 KOs) in the second round, but continued to tenderize him before stepping on the gas, hurting him with a vicious combination that had Basurto stumble toward the ropes and prompted the referee to jump in at 1:38.
Duval takes out Campos in 5
Avery Martin Duval thrilled dropped Luis Campos three times and getting an impressive stoppage.
Early on, Duval established his jab and quick footwork, while Campos was game and kept pressing the hometown fighter.
However, in the fifth round the fight took a dramatic swing when Duval (14-0-1, 7 KOs) dropped his Mexican opponent with a body shot. Campos was able to get up and try to gut it out but another body shot dropped him for a second time.
He got up but a combination shortly afterwards dropped him for the third time and prompted referee Steve St. Germain to call a halt at 2:12 of the fifth round.
Fendero finishes Crighton in 3
A power surge from Moreno Fendero took care of Boris Crighton in three rounds.
Fendero (12-0, 10 KOs) dropped Crighton twice to force the stoppage, his fourth in four fights during a productive year where he has continued impressing.
Crighton (13-6, 7 KOs) was disciplined and didn't get caught by anything significant until the final minute of the third round, when he was dropped by a big left hook.
The writing was on the wall and shortly afterwards, it was deja vu as another left hook floored the Scotsman once more. He was unable to make it to his feet, with the referee counting him out at 2:49 of the frame. The next thing will be for Fendero to get rounds, having not gone past the third in any of his four outings this calendar year.
Sanford stifles Kamanin over 6
Rising junior welterweight Wyatt Sanford opened the evening's Eye of The Tiger show with a dominant six-round decision over Semjon Kamanin at the Montreal Casino.
The Kennetcook native, who won bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics, boxed well behind his southpaw jab early and while in control, wasn't able to hurt the visitor and had to settle for a decision victory.
After six rounds, all three judges were in agreement and scored it in Sanford's favor by shut out 60-54. Sanford moves to 4-0 (2 KOs), while Kamanin dips to 5-4 (3 KOs).
